About This Role:

Your purpose as a Data Centre Engineer will be to install, manage and troubleshoot our information systems that our data centres run on. You will act as a ‘customer facing’ information technology expert, representing eir evo’s presence in our various data centres.
You will be part of an existing cross-functional team that will help deliver services like infrastructure hosting, backup & DR, VDI and networking services in our data centres. The responsibility of this team will be to ensure that eir evo is able to meet our availability & performance SLA’s for all our Cloud customers.

To support our industry leading 24×7 services, eir evo is seeking an ambitious, Data Centre Engineer to join this team in our Irish offices to assist in managing both our private & multi-tenant VMWare data centres.

** You will be required to travel to different sites. A full clean drivers licence is a must for this role. A company vehicle will be provided** 




Expectations From The Role:

  • Manage vendor replacement of faulty equipment, maintain inventory, activity and procedure documentation
  • Supervise contractors/customers performing tasks on their hosts systems
  • Install fiber and copper cross connects for routers, switches, network and SAN connections to servers and storage.
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack level events within internal SLA
  • Work on-call and a rotating schedule as needed
  • Ensure all personnel on-site follow safety protocols
  • Take daily operational readings and provide metrics reporting to senior engineers
  • Work within a managed cloud support team with varied skill sets and experience

Requirements For A Successful Application:

  • At least 7 Years’ experience in a customer-facing technical support role
  • At least 4 Years’ working in a cloud or datacentre environment
  • Excellent communications skills, written and verbal
  • Experience working with any of the following technologies (VMware, Azure, Windows Server, HP or Dell Storage Arrays, Kaseya, Autotask, Veeam, Citrix, Azure, Cisco, Palo Alto)

Preferred:

  • Experience regularly working with VMware vSphere & ESXi
  • VMware, Microsoft, HPE, Citrix, certification preferable
  • Level 6 or equivalent IT qualification

The Candidate

  • A technical person that will take ownership of projects, tasks and systems
  • Someone that enjoys sharing knowledge and training other team members
  • A keen willingness to work as part of a cross functional team to achieve objectives
  • A willingness to learn new skills outside of their own experiences
  • Experience working with a ticketing system, ISO/ITIL experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good analytical/troubleshooting skills and willing to learn new technologies
  • Experience of cloud or infrastructure services, particularly VMware
  • Self-starter that is able to perform tasks with minimal supervision
