Role Purpose & Vision

 

eir business is seeking a Akamai App & API Protection Engineer to join a team of network and security infrastructure professionals delivering managed network services to a large Irish enterprise client. The role involves supporting the ongoing implementation, configuration, and optimisation of Akamai App & API Protector. This is a long-term, embedded support engagement where eir business will work closely with internal security and application teams.

Expectations From The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

 

       Support the configuration, tuning, and day-to-day operation of Akamai App & API Protector

       Assist in the review and adjustment of security policies for web applications and APIs

       Monitor alerts and events, and support incident investigations under guidance

       Work with internal teams to respond to WAF-related issues and change requests

       Help identify potential improvements in rule tuning, coverage, and visibility

       Contribute to documentation of rule sets, policy changes, and operational processes

       Collaborate with Akamai and internal stakeholders to support secure rollout of protected apps

       Engage in continuous learning and skill development around the Akamai platform

       Prepare and deliver security reports and technical briefings covering operation, threat activity, policy compliance, risk exposure, and remediation recommendations.

Requirements For A Successful Application:

Desirable Experience

       Exposure to Akamai solutions (e.g., Kona Site Defender, Edge DNS, or related services)

       Experience supporting CDN, WAF, or API Gateway products

       Familiarity with security alerting, logging, and monitoring tools

       Previous experience supporting enterprise web applications or public APIs

 

Required Skills & Attributes

       Web technologies (HTTP/S, APIs, DNS, TLS, etc.)

       Web application security risks (e.g., OWASP Top 10)

       Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

       Willingness and capability to learn new tools and technologies on the job

       Automation/ scripting skills such as Python

 

 

Working Model

       Ongoing support model (not time-boxed)

       Embedded within our internal security/application support teams

       Collaboration with Akamai as a strategic vendor (Premium DDoS support already in place)

       TBC: Operating hours, locations (remote/on-site) etc.,
