About This Role:

Function

To operate as a member of a mobile and flexible National Core Field Force Team, undertaking Service Assurance and Service Delivery tasks in the core network in support of the full suite of Core Platform dependent products and services. 

The Core Field Force Team operates on a 24 hour, 365-day rota basis. The role of the National Core Field Force Technician is to undertake Core Network Service Assurance and Service Delivery tasks in the core network and customer premises under the direction of the Network Management Centre, in a timely and efficient manner, in line with predefined standards and procedures.


Mobility

The key feature of Core Field Engineering is geographic mobility. Staff are provided with Company transport, the required tools and systems, operate from their home and report to site, have a communications link with the SMC and operate via a works management centre.


Hours of coverage

The Field Force is liable to work between 08:30 and 20:00 Monday to Friday as normal attendance.

Duties are Day 08:30 to 16:30 and Late 12:00 to 20:00 on a rostered basis.

There is a requirement to attend on Saturday 08:00 to 17:00 to meet business demands.

Field Force is expected to be available to take emergency calls.

There is also a requirement to be on call 24x7 for which an allowance is payable together with fixed payments per call.

Expectations From The Role:

Key Tasks

The role of National Core Field Force Technician in Core Field Engineering incorporates;

  • Provision of 1G & 10G high-speed fibre circuits across eir’s core networks for eir products and data services. 
  • Support Network and Customer Delivery Programs (APEX, NGA, IFN, FttH, TRANP - Mobile Network enhancement, OGCIO, WUP and NGN circuits for Customers). Working knowledge of AGG nodes, Active and Passive DWDM, Fibre and copper networks.
  • Meet and maintain DDD Targets (Due Date Delivery Targets = 5 days for fibre orders)
  • Provision of high-speed circuits to other carriers both national and international.
  • Fibre Patching for IFN & FttH eir Networks. Working knowledge of ODF distribution frames, NGF & OMX and CMS (Cable Management Systems). 
  • Provide feedback on customer satisfaction and progress of work in hand
  • Work effectively as part of a Customer-focussed national mobile Service Delivery Team.
  • Coordinating with design groups and other business unit teams to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • In conjunction with Service Management Centre localise, diagnose and clear faults as required.
  • Complete and return all paperwork associated with jobs including completion certifications, updated records within the required timeframes and specification.
  • Provide regular updates and feedback on progress of work in-hand. Investigate problems to root cause.
  • Operational management tasks as requested by the Service Management Centre (SMC)
  • Clear faults on Core Network and ancillary equipment as required by the SMC
  • Carry out routines on network nodes and equipment as scheduled by the SMC
  • Implement restoration plans in the event of major network outages in co-operation with the SMC
  • Liaise as required with contractors and provide access to company premises
  • Cooperate with personnel from other business units in fault localisation as required by the SMC
  • Carry out other tasks as required by the SMC
  • Carry out minor build jobs

Requirements For A Successful Application:

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge and expertise in a range of Telecom core networks equipment

(Switching, TX networks & Radio Networks,

DC power, NGN, IP networks, NGA).

  • Understanding of Assurance and Operational processes

  • Awareness of optical fibre handling and testing and cleaning techniques 

  • Team player
