The primary function of this role is to support, maintain, and optimise enterprise network environments across a managed services customer base.
Working as part of a technical delivery team, the Network Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting, configuration, implementation, and ongoing support of network infrastructure across multi-vendor environments. The role requires strong technical capability and a focus on delivering reliable and secure services in line with agreed SLAs.
This role is suited to an individual with a solid technical foundation, a strong desire to learn, and a customer-first mindset. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, the ability to follow structured processes, produce clear documentation, and escalate issues appropriately.
Experience with networking and security concepts is essential, along with hands-on exposure to technologies such as Cisco LAN, WAN, WLAN and network security platforms. A proactive approach to continuous improvement and the ability to operate within ITIL-based incident and change management processes are key to success in this role
Expectations From The Role:
• Provide day-to-day support for customer network and security services, following agreed processes and SLAs.
• Assist with fault diagnosis and troubleshooting across LAN/WAN/WLAN and security services; escalate appropriately with clear information.
• Support implementation activities (adds/moves/changes), including device configuration, testing and validation under supervision.
• Assist with the creation and upkeep of technical documentation, build notes, diagrams and test results to meet industry standards.
• Adhere to change control processes, ensuring all work is compliant, auditable, and properly recorded.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks (patching coordination, backups where applicable, configuration checks) as assigned.
• Support the implementation of security controls (e.g., firewall rules, VPN users/policies)
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and partners to resolve incidents and service requests, contributing to a positive customer experience.
• Maintain continuous professional development through training, certifications, and hands-on learning
Requirements For A Successful Application:
• 3 to 5 plus years’ experience in a Network Engineer role within enterprise or managed services environments
• Strong hands-on experience in routing and switching across LAN and WAN environments
• Solid understanding of core networking concepts including TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing protocols such as OSPF, NAT, DNS, and DHCP
• Hands-on experience with firewall technologies, with preference for Palo Alto
• Experience supporting VPN technologies including IPsec, remote access, and GlobalProtect
• Experience working with Aruba networking technologies including switching and controllers
• Good understanding of network security principles and technologies including firewalls, VPNs, and IPS or UTM platforms.
• Understanding of WAN connectivity and access technologies including internet services, VPNs, and leased line or MPLS concepts
• Strong troubleshooting capability across multi-vendor network environments
• Familiarity with ITIL processes including incident, problem, and change management
• Strong communication skills with a customer-focused approach
• Ability to follow procedures, produce accurate documentation, and manage tasks or tickets through to completion
• Experience using ticketing systems and standard tools such as Microsoft Office and Visio
• Proactive approach to learning and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Cisco CCNA certification, or actively working towards certification with progression to CCNP preferred
• Experience with Wi-Fi deployments and troubleshooting
• Awareness of cloud networking concepts across platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
• Experience with Aruba technologies including AirWave and ClearPass
• Exposure to Palo Alto management and security platforms including Panorama and Cortex XDR
• Experience with load balancing technologies, particularly Barracuda
• Working knowledge of virtualisation platforms such as VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vROPs
• Exposure to data centre environments including SAN infrastructure
• Additional relevant certifications across Cisco, Palo Alto, Aruba, or Fortinet
