Role overview

This role requires an experienced End User Computing consultant with strong working experience across virtual desktop, application delivery and modern workplace technologies. The successful candidate will provide solution design, implementation, technical leadership, service delivery, customer engagement and senior-level operational support across Citrix and Microsoft platforms.

The successful candidate will work with Professional Services, Cloud Operations, Solution Architecture, Sales, Project Management and Service Delivery teams to design and deliver secure, scalable and supportable digital workspace solutions for eir business customers.

The role includes the design, implementation, migration, upgrade and support of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Azure Virtual Desktop, Desktop as a Service and related identity, profile, endpoint and application delivery services. It also includes supporting the evolution of eir business EUC and Modern Workplace offerings.

Expectations From The Role:

•  Design, implement, upgrade and support Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix DaaS environments.

•  Design, implement, migrate and support Azure Virtual Desktop environments, including host pools, workspaces, application groups and session hosts.

•  Design and support Desktop as a Service offerings across Citrix and Microsoft technologies.

•  Assess existing customer desktop and application estates and define practical modernisation, migration and transition approaches.

•  Configure and support FSLogix profiles, image management, application delivery and user environment technologies.

•  Design and support Citrix ADC / NetScaler solutions, including Gateway, load balancing, content switching, certificate management and secure application access.

•  Integrate virtual desktop solutions with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Intune, Conditional Access and multifactor authentication.

•  Consider Azure networking, storage, compute, security, resilience, monitoring and cost optimisation requirements in AVD solution designs.

•  Perform customer workshops, technical discovery sessions, health checks and pre-sales assessments.

•  Produce high-quality technical documentation, including high-level and low-level designs, migration and upgrade plans, statements of work, test plans and operational handover material.

•  Lead EUC platform migrations, lifecycle upgrades, service transitions and customer implementation activities.

•  Troubleshoot complex virtual desktop, application delivery, login, profile, identity, connectivity, capacity and performance issues.

•  Support critical incident response, root cause analysis and service improvement activities for EUC services.

•  Act as a senior escalation point for Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop and related Modern Workplace technologies.

•  Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to Cloud Operations, Service Desk and junior consultancy team members.

•  Maintain awareness of current Citrix, Microsoft Azure, Modern Workplace and EUC best practices through continuous learning.

Required skills and experience

•  Minimum 7+ years’ experience in a hands-on End User Computing, desktop virtualisation, infrastructure engineering or technical consultancy role.

•  Demonstrable experience designing, implementing, upgrading and supporting enterprise virtual desktop or application delivery environments.

•  Strong hands-on capability in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and/or Citrix DaaS.

•  Practical design, deployment, migration or support experience with Azure Virtual Desktop.

•  Strong troubleshooting ability, using a logical and systematic approach to diagnose root cause and deliver resolution.

•  Experience delivering customer-facing professional services engagements, ideally within a managed service provider environment.

•  Experience working across both project delivery and operational support teams.

•  Experience producing customer-facing design, implementation, migration and operational documentation.

Core technical knowledge

•  Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, StoreFront, Workspace App, Delivery Controllers, Machine Catalogs and Delivery Groups.

•  Azure Virtual Desktop concepts and components, including host pools, workspaces, application groups, session hosts, images and scaling.

•  Citrix Provisioning Services, Machine Creation Services, Citrix Profile Management and FSLogix.

•  Microsoft Azure compute, networking, storage, monitoring and identity services relevant to virtual desktop solutions.

•  Microsoft Windows Server, Windows 10/11, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, NTP and certificate services.

•  Microsoft Intune, endpoint management, Conditional Access, multifactor authentication and secure device access concepts.

•  Citrix ADC / NetScaler, Gateway, load balancing, content switching and application delivery concepts.

•  Virtualisation platforms, primarily VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter and shared infrastructure dependencies.

•  PowerShell or equivalent scripting and automation for administration, troubleshooting and repeatable delivery.

Preferred

•  Experience with Windows 365 and broader Microsoft Modern Workplace technologies.

•  Experience using Nerdio Manager for Enterprise or Nerdio Manager for MSP to manage Azure Virtual Desktop.

•  Experience with application packaging, Microsoft App Attach, MSIX or related application delivery technologies.

•  Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and virtual desktop monitoring or optimisation tooling.

•  Experience planning or delivering migrations between on-premises Citrix, Citrix DaaS, Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365.

•  Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualisation, Citrix Certified Expert - Virtualisation or equivalent experience.

•  Relevant Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, endpoint management or identity certification.

•  Relevant third-level qualification or equivalent industry experience.
