Role Purpose & Vision

 

eir business is seeking a Senior Firewall Engineer to join a team of network and security infrastructure professionals delivering managed network services to a large Irish enterprise client. The Firewall Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and ongoing support of enterprise firewall and application security platforms, with a strong focus on F5 (LTM/SSL) and Check Point technologies.

 

The role supports business-critical services, ensuring high availability, security compliance, and operational excellence You will act as a senior SME, engaging with engineers, management, and customer stakeholders to define solution approaches, agree maintenance objectives, introduce new capabilities, and drive issue resolution. You will initiate technical improvements and demonstrate leadership across the security infrastructure domain. 

 

This is a hands-on role covering solution design and delivery, plus the management and operation of critical infrastructure to a high standard. Strong troubleshooting skills are essential. 

Expectations From The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

 

·       Firewall & Security Operations. Configure, manage, and support Check Point firewalls, including policy management, rule optimisation, NAT, VPNs, and security updates

·       Perform firewall audits, rule reviews, and optimization

·       Operate and maintain F5 LTM and SSLi environments

·       SSL certificate lifecycle management

·       OS patching, upgrades, backups, and health checks

·       Support incident response, troubleshooting and RCA across security infrastructure. 

·       Perform planned changes, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of network and security platforms. 

·       Manage infrastructure reliability, ensuring availability, performance, resilience, and compliance with agreed SLAs. 

·       Contribute to and validate high‑level and low‑level designs, ensuring secure, scalable, and supportable solutions. 

·       Prepare and deliver customer-facing security reports, technical briefings covering firewall operations, threat activity, policy compliance, risk exposure, and remediation recommendations.

 

 


Requirements For A Successful Application:

Experience: 

 

·       Strong hands-on experience with Check Point firewalls

·       Strong operational experience with F5 LTM / SSL.

·       Enterprise network security operations experience

·       Advanced level: +10 years’ experience – CCNP/CCSP grade or higher 

·       Proven experience in large site environments within solution design, deployment delivery and management 

·       Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels within the business and external customer.

·       Strong track record of effectively assessing and managing competing priorities.

·       Excellent communication and relationship development skills

·       Highly motivated, strong attention to detail, team oriented, organised

·       Advanced Checkpoint or similar Next-Gen enterprise firewall with exposure to solution design, install, patch, maintain, operate 

·       Security engineer practitioner mindset with practical experience managing Next-Gen security features such as IDS/IPS, Advanced Persistent Threat Protection, Anti-Malware, App Control / Web filtering and SSL Inspection

·       Experience deploying and managing virtual network and security infrastructure in multi-cloud environments

·       Other core techs such as F5, Citrix Netscaler, VPNs, Wifi, ISPs, DDoS, management

·       platforms, AAA frameworks and perimeter hygiene solutions a plus.
